Give me, O God, a deep-seated affection for my Saviour. May I love him for what he is in himself,--infinite and boundless love--and for all he has done and suffered for the eternal happiness of man. I pray that, as I advance in years, my love to Christ may become stronger and stronger. Make me an eminently Christ-loving disciple, for his great name's sake. Amen.

I bow my knees unto the Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ, that he would grant me, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in my heart by faith; that I, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints, what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge that I may be filled with all the fulness of God. Amen.

I pray, heavenly Father, that I may know Christ experimentally, love Him, be found in Him, be conformed to His image, magnify Him, whether by life or by death, rejoice in His second coming, and look forward with unspeakable joy to the time when I shall be with Him, and enjoy His presence for ever. All I ask is for His sake. Amen.

desire to know him to be "chief among ten thousand and altogether lovely." Grant this, for his great name's sake. Amen. This prayer is from the book "Daily Prayer Union". O God, open thou mine eyes, by thy Holy Spirit, fully to comprehend the wonders of Christ's person,--very God and very Man,--the wonders of his love, grace, and power; the wonders which he has achieved by his death, his burial, his glorious resurrection and ascension; the wonders he is achieving by his unfailing intercession, and but the out-pouring of the Holy Spirit; and the wonders yet to come, when he shall appear again a second time in power and great glory. Grant this, O Lord, forthe honour of my Redeemer. Amen.

When conscience felt a wound within; When all my works were thrown away When on my knees I knelt to pray Then, blissful hour, remembered well I learned thy love, Immanuel. When storms of sorrow toss my soul When waves of care around me roll When comforts sink, when joys shall flee When hopeless griefs shall gape for me, One word the tempest's rage shall swell That word THY name, Immanuel. When for the truth I suffer shame When foes pour scandal on my name When cruel taunts and jeers abound When "Bulls of Bashan" gird me round Secure within thy tower I'll dwell That tower thy grace, Immanuel. When hell enraged lifts up her roar; When Satan stops my path before ; When fiends rejoice and wait my end When legion'd hosts their arrows send, Fear not, my soul, but hurl at hell Thy battle-cry, Immanuel. When down the hill of life I go ; When o'er my feet death's waters flow; When in the deep'ning flood I sink When friends stand weeping on the brink, I'll mingle with my last farewell Thy lovely name, Immanuel. When tears are banished from mine eye When fairer worlds than these are nigh When heaven shall fill my ravished sight; When I shall bathe in sweet delight, One joy all joys shall far excel To see thy face, Immanuel. May my soul not remain dead in trespasses and sins. quicken me, by thy Holy Spirit, to a new and spiritual existence. Raise me from the death of sin, unto a life of righteousness. I pray that I may rise with Christ above this world of sin and sorrow; seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth at the right hand of God; and set my affections on things above, not on things on the earth, for Christ Jesus' sake. Amen.

Almighty God, Who after thine only begotten Son had, by his life on earth and death upon the cross, wrought out our eternal redemption, didst please that he should enter the rest of the grave, I pray thee to grant that by his death my lusts and sins may be crucified and my heart quieted from all guilt. Grant that the old Adam in me may be buried, and the new man raised up in me. When my hour of departure shall come, may I fall asleep in Jesus, and my spirit enter into the paradise of God, for my Saviour's sake. Amen.
This prayer is from the book "Daily Prayer Union". Thou God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, grant that I may this day behold my Saviour with the eye of penitence, faith, gratitude, and love. "God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ." May I think much of my Saviour's sufferings, of the atonement he made upon the cross, and of all he has done and suffered for us men, and for our salvation. His infinite merits are my only plea. Amen.
